The South Bend Jewish community is a small, vibrant community consisting of over 100 families with our shul its central communal institution. Our community includes a full-time kollel, another local shul, kashrus organization, brand new mikvah, and cemetery. Our local schools include a Day School with over 200 students from Pre-K-8th grade for boys and girls, a Bais Yaakov High School, and a Yeshiva High School, all of whom emphasize excellent education in both Judaic and general studies. South Bend’s kosher grocery store offers a wide selection of fresh kosher food.
Hebrew Orthodox Congregation has a history of over 135 years serving South Bend’s Orthodox community. HOC has daily and Shabbos minyanim and is open and busy throughout the day. The South Bend Kollel is situated in the shul building, making it a place where people enjoy coming to learn. There are daily shiurim, as well as daily and weekly learning programs for boys. Our community’s core values are centered around adherence to Torah and halachah and a loyalty to Torah hashkafah and lifestyle. The shul has a serious davening and is a warm and inviting place. Over the years, the South Bend community has gained a reputation for its friendliness and its communal tradition of chesed and generosity.
